Causes of stroke

Stroke can be due to uncontrollable reasons such as genetic factors, which increase the likelihood of stroke in some families or ethnic groups, or factors associated with aging.

Stroke can also be due to lifestyle factors such as poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking. Such risk factors can be reduced by positive lifestyle changes. These are very similar to the ways in which the risk of a heart attack can be reduced.
